Privacy Policy

At a glance

• TapCaster does not collect personal information.
• There is no sign-up, no login and no server, and we have not added any advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
• Your phone, tablet or watch and your PC talk to each other directly inside the same local network (Wi-Fi). Commands never go out to the internet.

Information that stays on your devices

The following is stored only on your devices and is never sent to XIUSoft. It is deleted together with the app.

• Remote app: the presets you make (button names, colors and actions), the list of PCs you have connected to with the device token each PC issued, and app settings
• PC app: the list of remotes you have allowed (device names and hashes of their tokens), connection settings, and the OBS password (stored encrypted in Windows Credential Manager or the macOS Keychain)
• The command log in the PC app window stays on that PC, and the text you type on your phone is not recorded.

Device permissions

• Local network: used only to find (Bonjour/mDNS) and connect to PCs on the same Wi-Fi.
• Camera: used only to read the QR code on the connection screen. No video is stored or sent. If you decline, you can still connect with a PIN.
• PC app: asks to be allowed through the firewall so remotes can connect, and presses keys or moves the mouse only to carry out commands from remotes you have allowed.

Presentation and broadcast app integration

The PC app talks to apps such as OBS (obs-websocket) and FreeShow at the address you set (usually the same PC). Scene names, slides and speaker notes exchanged this way are shown only on your connected remotes and are not sent to XIUSoft.

Team management (paid, in the works)

The team feature for managing many PCs in one place has not been released yet. It will use a XIUSoft account (Sign in with Apple or Google) and XIUSoft servers. The server can see only PC names, whether they are online, the PC app version, the time of last activity and the number of connected remotes; commands, presets, messages and permission changes are end-to-end encrypted with the team's key. Before it launches, we will add what is processed, how long it is kept and how payment works (app stores) to this policy and let you know.

This website

tapcaster.xiu.kr has no advertising or analytics tools. Only when you choose a theme or language in the header does it store a cookie on .xiu.kr to remember that choice, and closing the language hint bar is remembered in your browser's storage (localStorage). Web server logs and other matters of running the website follow the XIUSoft website privacy policy.
